A network cable (patch cord) is one of the main components of a wired computer network. With it, you can connect a computer to network equipment or make a network of two computers.

Necessary

In order to crimp a network cable, you will need: RJ45 connectors (connectors, clips), a crimping tool, a cable

Instructions

Step 1

Before you begin the process of making a patch cord from the available components, you must determine the type of cable you require: crossover or straight. A crossover cable is used to connect two computers on a single network, while a straight-through cable is used in most other cases.

Step 2

To make a regular patch cord, with which you can connect a computer to a router or other network equipment, take a cable and carefully remove a braid 5-7 cm long at one end.

Lay out the wiring evenly and tightly to each other according to the following scheme (from left to right): white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown.

Cut the ends of the wires so that they protrude from the braid by 1, 5–2 cm and insert them into the connector. The connector should face the cable inlet towards you and click down with the latch down. The edge of the braid should fit slightly into the connector.

Insert the connector into the slot on the crimper and squeeze the handles on the crimper. Repeat on the other end of the cable.

Step 3

In order to make a cross-over patch cord, you should perform all the steps in the same sequence, but at the same time change the order of laying the wiring when crimping the other end of the cable. Arrange the wires at the other end of the cable as follows (from left to right): green-white, green, orange-white, blue, blue-white, orange, brown-white, brown.
