When a situation arises in which it is necessary to extend the network cable, many people prefer to simply buy a longer cable. But not everyone knows that you can independently lengthen a twisted pair with a minimum set of tools.

Necessary

2 power cables, knife, insulating tape

Instructions

Step 1

I would like to note right away that if you categorically do not want to waste time lengthening the network cable yourself, but have one more cable ready for use, it is more logical to buy a miniature switch. This device is a small box with twisted pair connectors on both sides. Just connect two short cables to it, thus getting one long one.

Step 2

Considering the fact that you still need another analogue to lengthen the network cable, the previous method is quite reasonable. But if you do not have a ready-made crimped wire, then there are other solutions.

Step 3

Take a knife and cut the power cord. Avoid cutting the cut line too close to the edge of the cable. Carefully cut off the backing layer. You will see eight wires of different colors.

Step 4

Strip these wires at both ends of the cable. Please note that you will need to wind them with analogs of another cable, so do not skimp on the length of the cleared area.

Step 5

Expose both ends of the power cord that you plan to use as an extension cord in the same way.

Step 6

As a result, you should end up with three pieces of a network cable, two of which have a connector on one side for connecting to a network card.

Step 7

Take the first half of the old cable and extension cord. Gently twist all wires of the same color together. Try to make the curl as tight as possible. Insulate each pair of coiled wires with special tape. Now insulate the entire set of twisted wires. This will help prevent cable breakage.

Step 8

Repeat the same operation with the other end of the cable. If you did everything correctly, then you should have one solid cable of the desired length. It is recommended to “ring out” each channel of the network cable before connecting it to a computer or other device.
