What is HDMI?

HDMI is a high definition multimedia interface. At its core, HDMI is a small wire with which you can transfer an image to another image output device and receive it in high quality (usually FullHD). With the help of such a cable, a person can connect almost any audio-video equipment that supports digital data transmission, and therefore has a special connector for such a cable. Today it is such a data transfer device that is very popular and is preferred for most of the most different devices.

The main difference between HDMI and other cables is, of course, its structure and shape, as well as increased functionality. As for the functionality, it is due to the fact that with the help of an HDMI cable, it becomes possible to transmit multichannel sound. It is worth noting that HDMI is compatible with the DVI interface, but this connection will not transmit sound, and this will require another special cable.

HDMI cable consists of an outer sheath that protects the wires inside, a shielding sheath, an aluminum foil shield that protects the cable from various electromagnetic influences, a polypropylene sheath, and inside there are shielded twisted pairs of the fifth category, unshielded twisted pairs, as well as separate conductors for supplying power and a variety of signals.

The information transfer rate via HDMI cable can reach 10, 2 Gbps. For example, a DVI cable has a speed of 3.4 Gb / s, which means we can say for sure that HDMI cables will be in demand for many years to come.

Types of HDMI connectors

Today there are HDMI cables with several types of connectors, this is 19-pin Type A, which is the most common type today, 29-pin Type B - has an extended video channel, so that a person can view images with a resolution even higher than 1080p. but, unfortunately, this type of cable is practically not popular today, therefore, buying it is not the most reasonable choice.

There is another type of HDMI cable connector, this is mini HDMI. Basically, a cable with a similar connector is used to transfer images through a camcorder, cameras and other peripheral devices. In all other respects except for its size, mini HDMI is a miniature copy of HDMI Type A.
