Usually, when connecting to an Internet provider, employees come in and set up the connection, as well as perform the necessary manipulations with the wires. However, sometimes it becomes necessary to crimp the wire on your own, if the connector suddenly breaks or some kind of trouble happened with the network cable. This is not as difficult as it seems at first glance.
It is necessary
network wire (twisted pair), RJ-45 connector, crimping pliers (crimper)
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the power cord (cable). It is also called a twisted pair cable, because under the insulation there are four pairs of multi-colored wires twisted in two. Thus, there are eight wires in total.
Step 2
You will also need a crimper crimping tool. Buy it or, if you're only going to use it once, borrow it from someone.
Step 3
Take a new RJ-45 connector. This is a plastic tip that fits over the cable and is directly inserted into the computer's network card (more precisely, the network board connector). It is best if the connector has eight wire guides - this makes the task much easier, since the wires will be easier to insert. Prepare 2-3 connectors just in case, they are very cheap in any computer store.
Step 4
Strip the insulation off the cable wiring first. To do this, insert the cable into a special device in the crimper - a round niche with a blade. If such a device is not provided, carefully use a knife. Cut the insulation on the cable a few centimeters (three or more) from the end of the wire. Grasp the crimper and twist around the cable - the insulation will be cut in a circle. Then pull out the cable without opening the pliers.
Step 5
Unscrew and straighten the wiring. Place them in a certain order from left to right: white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown. Trim the ends of the wires if necessary so that they are all flush.
Step 6
Hold the RJ-45 connector with the latch pointing down. Insert the wires into the connector all the way using the guides. Then push down so that the insulation goes inside and locks into place. Insert the connector into the special socket of the crimper. Squeeze the connector with pliers - the retainer will firmly press the insulation.
