The magnesium anode installed in an electric water heater is designed to neutralize the corrosive processes that occur in the internal tank of the boiler, which, in turn, increases its operational period. However, in the process of neutralizing corrosion, the magnesium anode is consumed, so it must be replaced with a new one over time.

Necessary

  • - hose;
  • - capacity;
  • - keys;
  • - anode;
  • - knife;
  • - chemical cleaning agent.

Instructions

Step 1

De-energize the boiler, then remove the cover located at the bottom of the heater and disconnect the wires. Be sure to shut off the water supply to the apartment.

Step 2

Next, drain the water from the water tank: for this, put a hose on the drain valve, the diameter of which must correspond to the diameter of the valve. Lower the opposite end of the hose into a tub or toilet. Open the valve and the cold water pipe (it takes about half an hour to drain the water).

Step 3

The electrical part of the boiler is located at the bottom of the boiler. Place a basin or other container under the water heater and unscrew the bolts located at the bottom of the boiler (usually there are six of them). Do not be discouraged if it is not possible to unscrew the bolts immediately: several attempts and you will achieve the result.

Step 4

Remove the water heater, turn it over for convenience and dismantle the heating element. To remove the heating element, grasp the electrical part of the boiler and pull it out of the tank. Be careful not to damage the rubber gasket.

Step 5

Anode is located next to the heating element. If the magnesium anode is destroyed, only a pin may remain in its place. Find the old anode or what's left of it and unscrew it.

Step 6

Screw in the cleaned heating element, and install a new anode next to it. Then assemble the electric water heater. At the same time, pay special attention to the integrity of the heating element laying and the insulation of electrical elements.
