Modern machines are quite often made with self-sharpening blades, which only need to be properly looked after. But an old machine with stationary blades can cause a lot of trouble for both the hairdresser and his client. It may well be time to sharpen the blades.

Step 1
Determine if it's time to sharpen your blades. If they are in good condition, the clipper runs smoothly, cuts hair easily, does not crush or tear it. Stuck and damaged hair is a sign that it's time to think about sharpening. You can do this a little earlier, noticing that some hairs are longer than others. Don't wait until the machine stops cutting at all.
Step 2
The best option is to find a suitable repair shop, where the blades of the clipper will not only sharpen, but can also be replaced if necessary. There is special equipment there. The blades are fixed in a special vice and sharpened with a rotating bar. The process does not take too long. In addition, the sharpening is of high quality.
Step 3
If there is no such workshop nearby, you can try sharpening the blades at home. You probably have a bar for sharpening kitchen knives. Sharpening detachable clipper blades requires more care, but the process is basically the same. Gently slide the blade over the block in two directions. The edge of the blade must be in full contact with the abrasive surface. It is most convenient to check the degree of sharpening by cutting off the pile from an unnecessary piece of natural or artificial fur.
Step 4
Take a piece of sandpaper. The more blunt the blades are, the larger the "skin" should be. Place the sandpaper between the blades and turn on the clipper. Cut the sheet into strips. In the process, the blades will also be sharpened. This method is also suitable for a mechanical typewriter.
Step 5
A shard of mirror can also help you. Apply an abrasive paste to it. Wipe the knife blade in a circular motion.
Step 6
It is very good if a lathe or grinder is available to you. In the first case, you will need another aluminum circle about fifteen centimeters in diameter. Apply diamond paste (or any other abrasive) to it. Attach the blade with a magnet. The method is quite dangerous, but it sharpens well.
