It happens that color irregularities occur on the screen of a CRT color TV due to the magnetization of the mask. This situation can be corrected by performing a procedure called demagnetization.

Instructions

Step 1

Unplug the TV and wait for the PTC thermistor in the demagnetization loop to cool down. This can take up to half an hour. Then turn on the machine again. Automatic demagnetization will take place. If it doesn't work, repeat the procedure several times.

Step 2

The monitor usually has a relay that disconnects the PTC thermistor and the coil from the mains after demagnetization is carried out. Therefore, it cools down even when the monitor is on. To demagnetize the kinescope again, just select an item called Degauss in the monitor menu. Remember that it will be possible to successfully demagnetize the tube mask again only after half an hour (while the posistor is hot, when the corresponding menu item is selected, the relay will click, but demagnetization will not be carried out, besides, each such attempt will reheat the posistor).

Step 3

If the CRT is so strongly magnetized that the built-in loop cannot demagnetize it, use an external demagnetizing choke. Take it to the TV studio for a while. Remove from the room for a while any floppy disks, audio and video tapes, bank and discount cards, tickets with a magnetic stripe - everything that can be demagnetized together with a TV or monitor. Turn on your TV or monitor, put the choke a few meters away, then turn it on too. Slightly moving the choke from side to side, slowly bring it near the unit, this will cause severe color irregularities. Take it back just as slowly and turn it off just a few meters away. After that, the color distortion should disappear. If not, repeat the procedure several times. Do not keep the choke on for a long time to avoid heating up.

Step 4

If even demagnetization by an external choke did not lead to the desired result, the convergence of beams is disturbed in the device. Entrust its adjustment to a specialist. This is due not only to the presence of high voltages in the TV or monitor, but also to the complexity of the procedure - not even every TV technician will take it on.
