Level - a geodetic device that allows you to determine the elevation - the difference in height between individual points. Levels are used not only by surveyors working on the surface of the earth, but also, for example, by builders who need to control the compliance of objects under construction with the parameters of the project. It is necessary to choose a level taking into account your specific tasks.

First you need to decide which level - optical or laser - you need. In resolving this issue, many factors must be taken into account. So, to work with an optical level, at least two people are required - an observer and a rod operator. One person works with the laser level.

If you intend to use the device inside buildings under construction, it is better to choose a laser, which does not need good illumination, as opposed to an optical one. It cannot work in bright sunlight. But not all laser levels allow you to punch right angles, but with any optical level you can. Some laser models are equipped with a level compensator, which significantly shortens the installation process.

Laser levels justify themselves well when shooting distances are small - up to 100 m. Using them, you can not only measure elevations, but also set out design heights, check the curvature of vertical surfaces, measure the depth of the excavation or plan the surface according to the set level. Optical level is cheaper. For open surfaces, simple tasks and long distances, it is more advisable to purchase it. Its range is limited only by shooting conditions and requirements for measurement accuracy.

Choosing an optical level is quite simple - their quality and reliability are almost the same for all manufacturers. Most of them are produced in China. When purchasing a device from European manufacturers, you pay mainly for the brand. When choosing, check what is included in the package, multiplicity (magnification) and accuracy, as well as the possibility of repair. Sometimes the cost of checking the level is included in its cost. Examine it, check how smoothly the aiming screws move. If the device is defective, it will be found out immediately or in the first month of operation. In this case, you must replace it.

When buying a laser level, do not skimp on versatility to the detriment of the quality of work, give preference to proven well-known brands. Here, too, it makes little sense to overpay for the brand, many Chinese factories supply levels with an excellent price-quality ratio. Pay attention to the error in plotting the planes, excessive accuracy reduces the functionality of the device.
