There is a simple rule: if the watch is broken, you need to take it to the watchmaker. It should be strictly adhered to when an expensive mechanical watch fails that you are unable to repair yourself. When it comes to replacing the battery in a quartz watch, you just need to remove the back cover.
Instructions
Step 1
Examine the watch back carefully. There are only a few basic types of back cover fastening: with a threaded ring, with bolts, snaps into place or screwed in completely. One way or another, whatever the type of connection, you need to start by cleaning the junction of the cover with the body. A lot of dust and dirt accumulates in this place. Take a small cotton swab. Soak it in rubbing alcohol. Gently wipe the outline of the lid. Then take the same dry swab and wipe off the remaining alcohol and dust.
Step 2
Take a small screwdriver. You will need it to open the back cover. Look for small indentations on the surface of the lid. Insert a screwdriver into one of them and try turning the cover counterclockwise. Once the lid gives way, you can rotate it by hand. This method is relevant in the case of screw-on or threaded ring fastening of the lid.
Step 3
In the first case, unscrew the cover until it separates from the body. In the second, remove the support ring, then find the tongue. As a rule, it is tucked into a small recess next to the handle of the switch mechanism. Hook it up with a screwdriver. The lid should open.
Step 4
Take a small watch screwdriver to remove the case back. You will need it to unscrew the retaining bolts. If you don't have a suitable screwdriver, use a utility knife. Unscrew the bolts, fold them so as not to lose. Then remove the cover. Typically, when the cover is secured in this manner, an O-ring is used as a gasket to keep out dust and moisture. Do not remove it from the watch case together with the cover. If the cover is secured with a latch, take a thin utility knife, find a recess in the case, hook the cover and carefully remove it, being careful not to scratch the watch case.
