If you do not have a microphone, but have headphones, they can also be connected to an audio device and used as a microphone. The connection method depends on the type of audio device you are using.

Step 1
If you want to connect headphones to a device designed to work with a dynamic microphone, you don't need any matching circuitry. If the device has a 3.5mm microphone jack, simply plug in headphones without any modifications. Speak into your right ear, as the left will be shorted into the socket.
Step 2
To use both emitters as microphones, cut off the plug from them, and then connect the other, monaural. If you only have a stereophonic one at hand, connect it to the common contact with the middle one. Connect the gold or silver wires together and connect to the common pin of the plug. Connect the blue or green wire to the orange or red one, and then connect to the far contact.
Step 3
There are devices that accept a dynamic microphone, but with different jacks. For example, many karaoke systems have 6, 3 mm connectors, and tape recorders have 5-pin connectors. Then cut off the plug from the headphones and connect the 6, 3 mm plug in its place as described above. If the player has two jacks, then using two pairs of headphones, four people can sing at the same time.
Step 4
To connect headphones instead of a microphone to a tape recorder with a five-pin jack (DIN standard, or, equivalently, ONTs-VG), connect the gold or silver wires together, connect to the middle contact of the plug, and blue or green together with red or orange - to the right. In case such a microphone does not work, move the last pair of wires from the right contact to the left one. The pinout of this connector depends on the year the recorder was manufactured.
Step 5
Sound cards are not designed to work with a dynamic microphone. Any attempt to connect such a microphone to them directly will result in almost indistinguishable sound. To amplify the signal, use a microphone amplifier - ready-made or homemade. But remember that without correcting the frequency response, even with the best amplifier, you will get a loud, but booming sound. Therefore, use an amplifier equipped with appropriate correction circuits. Excellent results can be obtained, in particular, from a playback amplifier board from a pocket player. In addition, its gain is so high that an attenuator may need to be installed between it and the microphone input of the sound card. Also try using a preamp designed to work with a turntable's electromagnetic pickup.
