There are two ways to set up your Philips universal remote to control your TV, DVD player, VCR or digital cable box - manually and automatically. Follow the instructions for manual configuration first. If the remote still cannot control the device, follow the steps for automatic setup.
Instructions
Step 1
Turn on the TV on channel 1. If the device is a DVD player, recorder or VCR, insert a disc or video tape.
Step 2
Press and hold the Code Search button on the remote until the red indicator is on. Release the button.
Step 3
Press and release the desired mode button on the remote control for the device you want to control (TV, DVD, or cable TV). The red indicator first flashes, then stays on.
Step 4
Find the manufacturer of the TV or device you want to control in the device code list that came with the remote control. Enter the code on the remote control keypad. The red indicator turns off if the code is correct. The red indicator flashes if the code is invalid.
Step 5
Press the Channel Up button on the remote. If the device responds, no additional programming is required. Press the Play button to test the remote when setting up your DVD or VCR.
Step 6
Turn on automatic search for codes if the device does not respond after manual input. To do this, press and hold the Code Search button on the remote control until the red indicator stays on, then release the button.
Step 7
Press and quickly release the button for the desired mode (TV, DVD, cable TV). The red indicator flashes once.
Step 8
Press the Channel Up button several times until the device responds. The red indicator flashes with each press of the button. Press the Channel Down button to return if you accidentally missed the code. Use the Play button for DVDs or other devices that do not have channels.
Step 9
Press and release the Mute button to set the code.
