Depending on the software version, you can delete music on the iPhone through a computer using iTunes or from the menu of the phone itself. In addition, iOS 8 allows you to delete not individual songs, but entire albums at once.
Instructions
Step 1
Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone with a USB cable. On the left side of the window, in the menu, open the "Music" item in the "Media Library" section.
Step 2
Here you can select individual files or entire albums by holding down the Ctrl key and, if necessary, toggle the display mode of media files on the top panel.
Step 3
When you are finished selecting the files you want to delete, press the Delete key on your keyboard. This will remove files from your iTunes library.
Step 4
Now it remains to sync iPhone with iTunes for the program to delete songs from the phone. Select "Music" under "Devices", find the "Sync" button in the lower right corner and click it. The selected music files are deleted from the iPhone.
Step 5
In versions starting from 4.2.1 you can delete individual tracks directly from my phone. To do this, go to the playlist you need and select Edit in the top menu. Now each track has a delete icon (brick sign). By clicking on it, you will see the Delete button and can delete the selected track.
Step 6
To remove music from iOS 7, first check if the iTunes Match option is turned on. To do this, in the settings, click on "iTunes & App Stores". If the option is enabled, you will not be able to delete songs from your device, you must first disable the iTunes Match option. To do this, turn the switch to the Off position.
Step 7
Then go back to settings and select the Music option. Switch Show all Music OFF. This will allow you to delete music that is linked to your device's account, but is not directly contained on it. Music that has not been downloaded cannot be deleted. As a precaution, it is best to quit Home Sharing as well, as it can create problems when deleting music.
Step 8
Open the app you are using to listen to music. If you don't find it on your desktop, double-click the Home button, and then on the right, open the tab with recent applications.
Step 9
Now select the song you want to delete. To do this, click on the songs button at the bottom of the screen. You will see all the songs that have been downloaded to your device. If you slide your finger over the song title, a red Delete button appears. When you click on it, the song will be deleted.
Step 10
You can only delete songs on iOS 7 one at a time. You cannot delete the entire album entirely. Thus, in order for the album to no longer appear on the device, you will have to delete all the songs from it that were on your iPhone. Also, you won't be able to delete songs that are on your iCloud account if they are not saved on the device itself. You can distinguish these recordings from the rest by the iCloud icon, which is located on the right side of the song. To disable this function, you need to switch Show All Music to Off in the settings in the music section.
Step 11
If the song is not deleted, but at the same time it is saved on the device itself, and not in the iCloud category, then there are some problems with the file. The easiest way to solve them is to use iTunes uninstaller. Often, after deleting a song from the device, it appears again. It happens that the delete option does not appear at all. To solve such problems, go back to settings and select the Music option. Show All Music must be enabled. Then launch the iTunes store, select Purchased, then Music. Reload the songs you tried to delete by clicking on the cloud icon. Once the song is loaded again, go back to the settings and toggle Show All Music to Off. Then open your music app and find the song you want to delete. Now, on swiping to the left, the Delete option should appear.
Step 12
As a last resort, when there are songs on the device that you want to delete but cannot, there remains one way to get rid of them by deleting all songs from the device. To do this, open the settings, select the General option, then - Usage. In the list that opens, select your music application and click on Edit. Now click on the Delete button that appears next to the All Songs line.
Step 13
Now make sure the song is not transferred to sync. In this case, the deleted song will appear on your phone again as soon as it is connected to the computer again.
Step 14
To remove songs from iOS 8, first turn off iTunes Match (assuming you're using it, of course). This is a paid service for downloading songs and sometimes it can be confusing and difficult to determine which song you have saved to your device.
Step 15
After disabling iTunes Match, go back to Settings and select the Music option. Switch Show All Music to Off. This way you can delete music that is connected to your device account, but is not saved on it. Then open your music app. Compared to iOS 7, the task has become easier: now you can delete not only songs, but entire albums at once. To delete a song, select it, swipe from right to left, and select the Delete option.
Step 16
Just like in iOS 7, you will not be able to delete songs that are located on your iCloud account, but not saved on your device. They are marked with a download icon to the right of the song. To not see these songs in the general list, switch the Show All Music section to the Off option.
Step 17
To delete an entire album at once, click the More button at the bottom of the screen, and then select Albums from the list that appears. Select the one you want to delete and slide your finger over it from right to left. Click the Remove button that appears. If at least one of the songs was saved on your iCloud account and not on the device itself, you won't be able to delete that album.
Step 18
After deleting a song, make sure it hasn't been transferred to Synchronizer. In this case, the song that was deleted will reappear on the iPhone the next time you connect it to your computer. Turn off iCloud on your device to prevent the iPhone from re-downloading the selected songs.
