The mere fact of buying even the most advanced subwoofer does not guarantee you good sound. To unleash the full potential of this device, it must be properly installed and configured.
Installation
The choice of the place where the subwoofer will be installed greatly affects the quality of its sound. In most cases, people will install this unit in the corner of a room to maximize bass reproduction. However, the angular placement of the subwoofer can distort the sound, and smooth transitions between speakers may be impaired. The subwoofer and speakers should work as one unit, ideally you shouldn't hear the separate operation of your subwoofer.
If you are using small speakers, place the subwoofer about one meter away from them. If you place it further, the illusion of bass sounding from the speakers disappears. For larger speakers, experiment with the placement of the subwoofer. Play sounds with a lot of bass and move the subwoofer around the room until you achieve the sound quality that suits you. Your goal is to achieve the optimal balance between the deep bass of the subwoofer and the mid-bass of the speakers.
Compound
The rear panel of subwoofers in most cases has the same connectors. For beginners, the number and variety can be daunting, but setting up the connections is straightforward. In most cases, a single-cable connection is considered the easiest, using the Sub In or LFE or Bypass connector for this. When choosing a cable for connection, take into account the distance between the AV-receiver and the subwoofer, determine in advance the path for laying it and take with a small margin.
Customization
Some receivers are equipped with special programs for automatic setup using a calibration microphone. Use it if available. If you are not satisfied with the sound quality, manual tuning is necessary. In this case, read the user manual, there should be specific recommendations for setting up. You can also find a phase switch on the back of the subwoofer. Play music with a lot of bass and listen to it for a minute. Slowly switch phase, adjusting values from 0 to 180, until you achieve the most acceptable bass sound. If you don't hear the difference between the various values, set phase to 0.
Subwoofer volume
Adjusting the volume of the subwoofer depends on individual preference. For example, some people like to constantly hear good bass, while others prefer to feel it only as a special effect at certain moments, for example, when watching movies. You can set the volume most suitable for you by ear, in addition, you can use the automatic tuning programs.
