A well-tuned fully mechanical watch can be even more accurate than an inexpensive quartz watch. In order to carry out this operation with respect to wristwatches, you should contact the workshop. But an alarm clock or a clock with a pendulum can be set up yourself.

Instructions

Step 1

When adjusting the clock, you can use the exact time signals transmitted by the radio, the “Talking Clock” telephone service, GLONASS or GPS navigator, a receiver of the reference frequency signals, and an NTP server as a source of exemplary time.

Step 2

At the alarm clock, a special lever on the back wall serves as an element for adjusting the vibration frequency. Set it to the middle position first. Set the time according to your chosen reference source. Wait one day, then check how much the clock readings differ from the readings of the reference source, and in which direction. If the alarm clock lags behind, slightly move the lever to the side marked as "SLOW", if in a hurry - to the side marked as "SPEED". Set the exact time again, wait another day, then repeat the operation, each time moving the lever very small distance. After a few days, you will be able to achieve a very accurate course from the alarm. Of course, from time to time you still have to correct his readings, although much less often than before.

Step 3

Setting the alarm clock using a special device for checking the clock of the PPCh series is as follows. Insert a new paper disk into the device, bring the working clock to the microphone and start the recording mechanism. After completing the check, a straight radial line should appear on the disk. If it is bent towards the side corresponding to the slower operation of the watch, speed up slightly, if to the side corresponding to the accelerated operation, slow it down. Replace the disc in the unit and recheck. Do this until a straight line begins to appear on the discs.

Step 4

A pendulum clock uses a nut at the end of the pendulum to control the oscillation frequency. To slow down, unscrew this nut slightly to lower the swingarm; to accelerate, tighten it slightly to raise it. The adjustment method itself is the same as for an alarm clock. Pendulum clocks, in addition to adjusting the oscillation frequency, require verticality adjustment. That is why they are attached to the wall with one nail or self-tapping screw, not two. The criterion for the correctly chosen position of the clock is a uniform course: the duration of any odd pauses between clicks must be equal to the duration of any even ones. If you are unable to adjust this watch parameter by ear, you can use a microphone and an oscilloscope, which has a slow sweep mode and a large persistence.
