Televisions with a screen size of 17 inches or less often have only one video input. This creates certain difficulties when connecting two tuners at once (for example, satellite and cable).

Instructions

Step 1

Never switch tuners by alternately connecting their cables to the TV. This creates a risk of wear on the plugs as well as on the connectors on the TV itself. In addition, if you accidentally touch the metal parts of the plug and the TV at the same time, when they are not connected to each other, which means that their potentials are not aligned, a painful electric shock is possible.

Step 2

To no longer need to switch cables, make a custom hand-held signal switch. Prepare a plastic case, six RCA connectors, and a toggle switch with two changeover contact groups. Switching is a group of contacts that contains one middle and two extreme terminals, which are connected to the middle one in turn. A toggle switch containing not one, but two groups of this type is called two-pole. He has six conclusions in total.

Step 3

Drill holes for the toggle switch and connectors in the housing, then install all the components. Designate the connectors as follows: "Video in 1", "Audio in 1", "Video in 2", "Audio in 2", "Video out", "Audio out". Connect the common contacts of all connectors to each other.

Step 4

Connect the central contacts of the connectors as follows: "Video output" - to the middle terminal of the first contact group of the toggle switch; "Audio out" - to the same output of the second group. Connect the central contact of the Video Input 1 connector to the first extreme terminal of the first group, and a similar contact of the Video Input 2 connector to the second extreme terminal of the same group. Connect the audio inputs in the same way, but use the second instead of the first contact group. Do not mix up the numbers of the inputs themselves, otherwise the audio signal will pass from one tuner, and the video signal from the other.

Step 5

Disconnect power to both tuners and the TV. Connect the first tuner to the Video In 1 and Audio 1 In jacks, the second to the Video In 2 and Audio In 2 sockets. Connect the TV to the Video Out and Audio Out connectors. After that, turn on all three devices, select the video input on the TV, and then make sure that switching the positions of the toggle switch makes the TV receive a signal from one tuner, then from another. Similarly, you can connect to a TV with only one video input, say, one tuner and one DVD player. Four devices can be connected to a dual-input TV using two of these switches. The only drawback of this solution is the impossibility of switching inputs from the remote control.
