Inc, and first of all Sergey Brin himself, have repeatedly appeared in public in prototypes of their acclaimed gadget Project Glass, and consumers were looking forward to the day when they could buy or at least try on fantastic glasses with augmented reality, and wondered about the price … And on June 27, 2012, the figures were announced - $ 1500. However, even if you can afford it, it is not so simple.
Google. Inc has been developing cyber glasses for more than 2, 5 years. However, the final product is still not ready. All Project Glass samples currently in existence are experimental prototypes under development. The image of the Google promo video is just a simulated video taken with ordinary cameras and slightly embellished with computer graphics. It demonstrates the features that the developers would like to equip the wonder glasses.
Samples of Google Glass shown at the June 27 presentation can take photos and videos and play them directly onto the lens. According to the reviews of people who managed to test the glasses, the picture does not interfere with the review, but the sound is poorly audible.
A short video shot with the cyber glasses camera and a few photographs make it possible to judge the high quality of the image, but that's about it. Sergei Brin's touching story that without glasses he could not have captured his games with his little son causes slight bewilderment. It is also possible to make such a shooting (as well as another video - Skydiving Demo at Google I / O 2012) using the already familiar action cameras fixed on a suitable headdress. So the promised revolution, capable of "turning the life" of the man in the street, remains only daring plans for the future.
Manufacturers still have a lot of work to do on the product. A big inconvenience is caused by the battery behind the ear, which also lasts only 6 hours. Even such a key issue as the method of communication with the Internet has not yet been fully resolved. Will it be an independent Wi Fi (3G / 4G) module or the glasses will still have to be switched via a smartphone - all these developers still have to think about.
Who can buy Google Glass and when
In early 2013, Google representatives promised to release a small number of glasses called Glass Explorer Edition on sale. But these will still be experimental models, not the final product. It was on them that the price of one and a half thousand US dollars was announced. And even for that kind of money, only visitors to the next Google I / O conference - that is, a small number of American programmers - can buy them.
For the average consumer, the finished version of the miracle gadget will not be available until 2014. It is then that the final price of the product will be determined. So far, only one thing can be said with certainty - it will be lower than $ 1500. Both Google and its competitors will take care of this.
