Digital camcorders either immediately record the footage onto a miniature DVD disc, or are equipped with programs that allow you to rewrite the result of the footage onto a disc using a computer. But analog cameras are still in use. A movie shot with such a unit can also be dubbed to DVD.

Step 1
The first way to dub a movie from an analog camcorder to DVD is to use a consumer DVD recorder. It is not much more expensive and larger than a regular DVD player, but it has a tuner and video input. Like a VCR, such a recorder can record TV broadcasts, as well as an analog video stream from any of its sources, including a video camera. On the camera, look for a 3.5mm jack, similar to the one where headphones are usually plugged into on other devices. It should be labeled A / V Out. Connect the cord supplied with your camcorder to it. Connect the yellow plug to the Video In jack on the recorder, and the white plug to the Audio In jack. If there is also a red plug, your camera is stereo. Then connect the white plug to the Audio In Left of the recorder and the red plug to the Audio In Right.
Step 2
Turn on the power of the camcorder, and on the recorder select the video input to which it is connected. Insert a disc into the recorder, rewind the tape to the beginning of the desired dubbing point, and then simultaneously press the play button on the camera and the record button on the recorder.
Step 3
There are DVD recorders with built-in VHS VCRs. In addition, even a recorder without this function can be connected to a conventional VCR. If you are using a VHS-C analog camcorder instead of Video 8, install the battery in the adapter supplied with the camera, place a cassette in the adapter, and then insert it into the VCR. Then re-record as described above.
Step 4
After the recording is complete, stop playback on the camera and stop recording on the recorder. Having thus recorded all the tracks on the disc in the desired order, select in the menu of the recorder the item corresponding to the finalization of the disc. The location and name of this item depends on the recorder model. The disc can then be played on any DVD player.
Step 5
The second way to overwrite is using a computer. To do this, install a special TV tuner card into it. Connect the video signal from the camera to the low-frequency input of the board, and the audio signal to the microphone input of the sound card through an RCA-Jack adapter. On your computer, run Xawtv on Linux and Kastor TV on Windows. Use this program to burn the AVI file.
Step 6
Copy the finished file to a CD or DVD using K3b or Grafburn (in Linux), or Small CD Writer (in Windows). The recorded disc can be viewed only on players with the function of playing MPEG4 files (almost all modern players are like this). If you want, you can burn the disc in a regular DVD format suitable for any player, even without MPEG4 support. To do this, use DVDStyler, which is available for both Linux and Windows.
