If you actively use the video recording function of your camera, you may want to edit the captured videos, cut them to DVD or upload them to video hosting. In order to perform any of these tasks, you will need to copy the video from the camera to your computer, or at least connect the camera to your computer.

How to burn a video from a camera to a disc

It is necessary

  • - card reader;
  • - cable with USB and mini USB connectors;
  • - Nero Burning ROM program;
  • - DVD burner on a computer;
  • - blank DVD.

Instructions

Step 1

Some camera models save files to memory cards. In order to copy a video shot with such a camera, remove the card from the camera and insert it into the slot for memory cards of the type used in your camera, on the case of a laptop or computer system unit.

Step 2

If your computer case does not have a suitable slot, it can be successfully replaced with a combination of a card reader and a USB connector. To copy files, insert the memory card into the card reader slot and connect the card reader to the computer via the USB connector.

Step 3

If you use a camera without removable storage media, you will have to connect the camera itself to the computer. This can be done by installing the device driver from the disc that came with the camera. If the camera came to you without a disk, go to the manufacturer's website and download the driver from there, typing the camera model into the search box.

Step 4

After installing the driver, connect the camera to the computer using the USB to mini USB cable supplied with the camera. With this connection, the camera will be recognized as an external hard drive.

Step 5

Open in Explorer the folder with the contents of the memory card or, if you have connected a camera to the computer, with the contents of the camera's memory. Highlight the files containing videos and copy them to a folder on one of the drives on your computer. Even if your camera saves videos to the same folder as your photos, you can tell them apart from your stills by their size and file extension. A video takes up much more memory space than a photo taken with the same camera. In addition, it is written to files with the extension avi, mpg, vob, wmv, mov or mp4.

Step 6

Files copied from the camera to the hard disk can be edited in the editing software or directly cut to DVD. If you want to burn video to a disc for viewing in a DVD player, convert the filmed videos to a format that the player understands using a converter program. A list of these formats can be found in the instructions for the player.

Step 7

You can cut video to disc using the Nero program. Insert a blank disc into your DVD drive and start the program by clicking on the Nero Smart Start icon. Select a disk type from the drop-down list at the top of the window and click on the leaf-shaped icon to create a data disk.

Step 8

Make a list of clips to be cut to disc. To do this, click on the "Add" button and select the files for recording in the window that opens. After adding all the necessary files, click on the "Finish" button.

Step 9

Click on the "Next" button and, if necessary, specify the name of the disk being created. Start burning by clicking on the "Burn" button.
