After you have purchased a wired telephone, you can start using it only after connecting to the line. The connection method depends on the phone model. In modern Russia, telephone connectors of two standards are used: RTShK-4 and RJ-11.

Step 1
The easiest way to connect a telephone to the line is if its plug matches the outlet to which you want to connect it. The way to make such a connection is obvious.
Step 2
It happens that in the old type telephone socket (RTShK-4), some phones work, while others do not. In this case, it is necessary to open the plug and socket and see if the way of connecting the cable in the plug and socket is the same, and, if necessary, correct the situation. Before any manipulation with the contacts of the socket, you should pick up the receiver on one of the parallel phones, otherwise you can get an electric shock during an incoming call. The standard arrangement of wires in the RTShK-4 telephone socket is as follows: the conductors are connected to the right contacts, and the left ones are left free.
Step 3
If the type of plug on the phone does not match the type of outlet, you will have to use an adapter. Adapters designed to connect a telephone with an RJ-11 plug to the RTShK-4 socket are widespread. They are sold in markets, hardware stores. Adapters for connecting a telephone with a RTShK-4 plug to an RJ-11 socket are very rare. It is easier to make such an adapter yourself from an outlet and a piece of cord with an RJ-11 plug. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that two middle wires are involved in this cord, and the two outer ones do not need to be connected anywhere.
Step 4
You don't have to buy or make an adapter, but change the plug on your phone. This should not be done if the warranty period for the device has not yet expired. However, such a phone can also be connected in this way if it has a detachable cord. It is enough to remove the supplied cord, purchase another detachable cord separately, and modify it accordingly. Note that installing the RJ-11 plug on the end of the cord yourself is a painstaking operation that requires a special tool. It is easier to use a ready-made piece of cord with such a plug at the end.
