During cooking in the oven, oil, fat, food particles settle on surfaces, almost firmly burning to the walls. Keeping the oven clean is not only required for hygienic purposes, but also for the safety of its use. But cleaning the oven from this layer of dirt is one of the most unpleasant household chores. Therefore, self-cleaning ovens that have recently appeared on the kitchen appliance market have become very popular.

Self-cleaning ovens are modern kitchen appliances with an automatic cleaning function. They are divided into two types, catalytic and pyrolytic: in one case, dirt in the oven simply does not accumulate, since a special coating absorbs all impurities and decomposes grease, in the other, for cleaning, you need to turn on the oven to the maximum temperature in order to burn all impurities.

Oven with self-cleaning pyrolytic function

Self-cleaning ovens with pyrolytic cleaning can be heated to enormous temperatures - up to 500 degrees. This is necessary so that all food debris, dirt, grease under the influence of heat turns into dry ash, which is removed from the cabinet walls much easier and faster than a burnt layer of dirt.

However, such ovens do not completely eliminate the need to clean the oven, they just reduce time and effort to a minimum.

It is necessary to use the self-cleaning function if a sufficient amount of dirt has accumulated on the walls of the oven. Before turning on the oven to the maximum temperature, open all the windows in the kitchen and warn the rest of the household not to enter the room while the self-cleaning is working.

Remove all containers, trays, racks and other items from the oven; they will need to be washed by hand with detergent.

Follow the instructions for the oven and turn on self-cleaning. As a rule, it lasts several hours, the exact time is indicated in the instructions. The oven door must be tightly closed; it is advisable not to be in the kitchen at this time, but it is not recommended to leave the house. Do not open the door before finishing work.

After self-cleaning is over, it is necessary to allow the oven to cool down, which also takes several hours. After that, you can complete the procedure - open the door, sweep away the ashes with a dry cloth, wipe hard-to-reach places where dirt could accumulate with a damp sponge.

In low-quality and cheap self-cleaning ovens, this function does not work well, to choose a good appliance, read customer reviews, watch a video about different models.

Self-cleaning ovens with catalytic cleaning function

The catalytic method of cleaning the oven is used more often, since it does not seriously affect the design of the oven. In this case, the walls of the cabinet are covered with special enamel with pores, in which fat and food particles settle. When heated, these contaminants are separated into water and soot, leaving no greasy residue. Thus, the cleaning function only works during cooking. At the same time, dirt is removed more slowly, large greasy stains can disappear only after a few cooking procedures.

Self-cleaning catalytic ovens have one important drawback - this enamel works only for five to six years, after which it loses its properties. The more often you use the oven, the faster the cleaning function will become unusable.
