With the onset of the winter period, there may be problems with starting the engine. The battery of the car is often the cause. High-quality batteries, such as Bosch, rarely cause such troubles to owners, but in a particularly cold period it is worth checking them out.

It is necessary

  • - device BAT 121;
  • - device T12 200E / 300E;
  • - high-resistance volmeter;
  • - avometer.

Instructions

Step 1

The condition of the battery can be assessed at a Bosch Service workshop using a special diagnostic device BAT 121. This device allows you to quickly check the condition of the battery without a shock discharge procedure with a load plug. The generator voltage is checked at the same time. However, such a device has not received mass distribution among motorists due to its high cost.

Step 2

A more complete check can be done at the same service using the T12 200E / 300E device. This test loads the battery with an EN cranking current, which is a pretty tough test for a battery. The results of such a test give the most complete information about the state of the battery - whether it needs to be recharged or replaced with a new one.

Step 3

Many maintenance-free Bosch battery models have discharge level indicators located on the top of the case. If you are the owner of a similar model, visually check the battery charge using these indicators and, if necessary, recharge it, focusing on the same indicators.

Step 4

To test a maintenance-free Bosch battery without a discharge indicator, measure the voltage at its terminals at rest, that is, a few hours after the engine is turned off. Try to use only a high impedance voltmeter. If the voltage level is less than 12, 3-12, 4 V, the battery needs recharging. Recharge Bosch batteries only with the dedicated Bosch battery charger KL1206E or Battmax-Automatic.

Step 5

Bosch rechargeable batteries with water refill are still being produced and sold. If you own such a battery, periodically check the density of the electrolyte in it. This value must be within the limits specified in the operating instructions. If it does not meet the requirements, add distilled water to the battery. But in any case, do not fill in electrolyte - this is prohibited by the instructions!
