One of the most common headphone problems is a broken wire at the 3.5mm plug. Due to constant bending, the plastic loses its elasticity and begins to break along with the wires, of which it is insulated. The sound disappears first in one earpiece, and then in the other. This problem can be easily fixed using a soldering iron and a second pair of headphones.

It is necessary

  • - Soldering iron
  • - Rosin
  • - Solder
  • - A pair of headphones
  • - Insulating tape

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, buy a new pair of headphones. They can be of any quality, the most important thing is that they are identical in resistance to those that need to be repaired. Prepare them for soldering - cut the wire ten to fifteen centimeters from the plug and strip the wires.

Step 2

Carry out the same operation with old headphones. Cut their wire five to ten centimeters from the break, and then strip each wire separately. There should be no plastic residues at the ends of the wires, they should be bare by one or two centimeters.

Step 3

Using a soldering iron, carefully solder the appropriate wires. While working, you can connect the plug to the player and put on headphones to determine if you are doing everything right. Use a medium amount of solder, periodically cleaning the soldering iron with rosin.

Step 4

After you finish working on the wire, wrap it with insulating tape. It is preferable to do this immediately after soldering is complete, as the length of the wire can make it difficult for you to wind it after the work is completed. Check the headphones for operation again, and then wrap the soldering area with insulating tape.
