Conventional speakers have poor reproduction of bass frequencies. Therefore, a subwoofer is needed to get the best possible sound quality. There is a large assortment of such devices on store shelves, but not everyone can afford to purchase an active subwoofer. Therefore, it is best to assemble it yourself.

It is necessary

  • - plywood sheet;
  • - fiberboard sheet;
  • - tools for working with wood;
  • - sealant;
  • - carpet;
  • - amplifier;
  • - wires;
  • - Power Supply.

Instructions

Step 1

Get a subwoofer. You can also use a speaker from an old speaker. Start by making the enclosure for your future subwoofer. Choose the material from which it will be made. Most often, cases are made of plastic, wood and metal. However, it is best to use wood or plywood, as these materials do not emit unpleasant sounds when exposed to vibration. Also, wood is very simple and easy to work with. Most professional loudspeakers have wooden enclosures.

Step 2

Calculate the dimensions of the case using a special program. To do this, enter the data of the existing speaker in a special form. The program will automatically give you the dimensions of the case, at which the maximum sound quality will be achieved. There are a lot of similar programs now. The most convenient and easy to use is JBL SpeakerShop. It is easier to make a subwoofer in the form of a barrel with your own hands. To do this, cut two circles out of plywood. In one circle you will embed the speaker, and on the second there will be connectors for connection. Make the walls from a folded sheet of fiberboard. Mark the workpiece.

Step 3

Use a jigsaw to carefully cut out the circles. Sand them with sandpaper. Prepare a sheet of plywood. You need to bend it very carefully so as not to break it. If the plywood does not bend well, then put a wet rag on it and steam it thoroughly with an iron.

Step 4

Glue the bottoms with PVA glue, and also fix it with brackets. Place the amplifier inside the enclosure. Its presence is the main difference between an active subwoofer and a passive one. Secure the amplifier carefully. To prevent it from emitting unpleasant sounds when vibrating, place a piece of felt or carpet. In one bottom, cut a hole to fit the speaker.

Step 5

Place the speaker in one of the plywood circles, lubricating the edges with sealant. In the other circle, carefully drill holes for the wires. Strip and smooth the edges so that they do not break the protective layer of the wiring. Connect all wires according to the instructions that came with the amplifier. It describes in detail the wiring diagram. Replace the speaker by threading the wires through the holes. Connect a subwoofer and test it. You can also wrap the case with some material to give it a nice look. To get the effect of light and music, solder a diode strip that will blink in time with the music.
