The TV has less stringent picture quality requirements than the monitor. Therefore, a computer monitor whose parameters are no longer suitable for you can be used as a TV. To do this, you need to connect an external TV tuner to it.
It is necessary
- - monitor;
- - external TV tuner;
- - digital TV decoder;
- - active computer speakers;
- - cables;
- - extension cord with multiple sockets;
- - TV antenna.
Instructions
Step 1
Check your monitor. Connect it to a computer with a suitable video card, display any video on the full screen, at least from YouTube. Move as far away from the monitor as you intend to watch TV. Make sure the image quality suits you.
Step 2
Select the correct TV tuner. Its output type (VGA, DVI or HDMI) must match the input type of the monitor. The tuner must be designed to work without a computer. Please note that devices with VGA outputs can most often only receive analog TV channels. If analogue TV broadcasting in your region has already been discontinued, or its imminent termination is planned, you will have to add an external digital TV set-top box of the corresponding standard to such a tuner.
Step 3
Connect the tuner with a cable (VGA, DVI or HDMI) to the monitor. If the tuner can receive only analogue TV broadcasts, and broadcasting in your area is only digital, use an RCA cable to connect the digital decoder to the tuner. Use the yellow sockets for this. Connect the antenna to the device that will receive transmissions - a tuner or digital decoder. Turn on all appliances. When linking a digital decoder with an analog tuner, switch the second one to AV (low frequency input) mode. Take the remote control from the device to which the antenna is connected and perform an automatic or manual search for TV channels according to the instructions.
Step 4
You have already received the image, but most likely there is no sound yet. Sound will appear only when three conditions are combined: the connection is made via HDMI, all devices and cables support sound transmission via HDMI, the monitor has built-in speakers. If at least one of these conditions is not met, add one more component to the system - active computer speakers. The tuner or digital decoder has two RCA jacks, red and yellow, for stereo audio output. Buy or make a cable with RCA plugs on one end and a 3.5mm stereo jack on the other. Connect the RCA plugs to the corresponding jacks on the tuner or digital decoder, and plug the speaker plug into the 3.5mm jack. Turn on the speakers and use the knob on one of them to adjust the sound volume.
