The best option for displaying images from a modern Sony game console is, of course, a widescreen TV with a large diagonal. New TVs always have support for a wide variety of connection methods. But it is not always possible to buy or use it, so it often becomes necessary to connect the console to a computer monitor while playing.
Instructions
Step 1
The standard video output for the PlayStation 3 is HDMI. The set-top box comes with such a cable, it transmits both image and sound, which is very convenient. If your monitor has an HDMI port, you can simply plug one end of the cable into the set-top box and the other into the monitor.
Step 2
First, check if your display has HDMI. Look at the back of the monitor, where the sockets for the power cable and the signal cable from the computer are located. If you find a suitable connector labeled HDMI, plug your console cable into it. Turn on your monitor, then turn on your console - you will most likely see the PlayStation 3 startup screen. Note that it is best to turn off your computer at this time. Most monitors automatically switch to the active signal source, which means that if your computer sends a signal to the monitor, you will see a regular picture from the desktop.
Step 3
Some monitors have a Source button that allows you to manually select an image source. Press it several times until you see the HDMI message on the screen.
Step 4
The next option is applicable if your monitor does not have a modern high definition HDMI interface, but a DVI connector. Its socket is usually white in color with a large number of contact holes. In this case, you will need a program to test your monitor for HDCP support. This is such a high-definition video protection protocol, without which the monitor will not display a picture from the set-top box.
Step 5
Download and install CyberLink BD & 3D Advisor. Run it and click the Blu-ray Disc check item. Pay attention to the bottom line of Video Connection Type. If the column opposite it says No, your monitor does not support HDCP. Go to step 6. If Yes, then the monitor supports this function, and you can connect using an adapter.
Step 6
Buy an HDMI-to-DVI-D adapter and an AV cable from a set-top box with tulip connectors (white, red, yellow). Connect the adapter to the monitor DVI jack, plug the HDMI cable into one end and the other into the PlayStation 3. Then plug the white and red connectors into your speakers on one side and into the set-top box on the other. You can turn on the console. Set the resolution and audio output in the control panel of your PS3.
Step 7
If your monitor does not have an HDMI connector and does not support HDCP, then there is only one possible connection option - buy a VGA Box adapter. On one side, connect the HDMI cable from the PlayStation 3 to this adapter, and on the other side, plug the connector from the monitor and from the speakers. Turn on the console and you can use it. Please note that an adapter of this type costs from 50 to 100 dollars and most often you have to order it from an online store.
