Most household electronic and electrical devices are powered by AA and AAA batteries. As a rule, they are zinc-carbon, alkaline or lithium batteries.
Rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries are used as power sources in modern electronic devices. They usually come in two sizes - AA and AAA. In everyday life it is customary to call them "finger" and "little fingers".
Any power supplies that are used in consumer electronics work according to the same principle. The battery is a metal glass containing an electrolyte and a rod. The rod acts as an anode, and the glass acts as a cathode. When connected to the circuit, electric charges begin to transfer from the cathode to the anode and an electric current arises.
Zinc-carbon batteries
Depending on the material from which they are made, batteries can have different characteristics. The most common batteries are zinc carbon. They use a graphite rod as a cathode and a zinc glass as an anode. The electrolyte in zinc-carbon batteries is an acid solution. Such batteries have a small capacity and are widely used in flashlights, music players and other household devices.
Alkaline batteries
Compared to zinc-carbon batteries, zinc-manganese batteries have a much higher capacity. In them, the anode is made not of graphite, but of manganese oxide. An alkali solution is used as an electrolyte in manganese-zinc batteries. In everyday life, such batteries are called alkaline.
Lithium batteries
Lithium batteries have an even higher capacity. For comparison, the typical capacity for zinc-carbon batteries is 300-600 milliamperes per hour, and for lithium batteries it is more than 2000 milliamperes per hour. In lithium power supplies, a lithium rod is used as an anode, and a mixture of organic substances is used as an electrolyte. Lithium batteries can work for a very long time, while they compare favorably with other batteries in that they almost do not discharge when not connected.
Lithium and alkaline batteries are available in AAA and AA housings. Due to the high capacity of lithium batteries, they can be small in size. It is lithium anodes that are used in "tablet" disk batteries. Lithium disk batteries are used in wristwatches and provide BIOS backup power to computers. Cylindrical lithium batteries are used in digital cameras, camcorders, etc.
