Many operating system tasks can be performed in a terminal or console by entering certain commands. Currently, there are many computer shells, among which the most popular are Windows, Linux or Ubuntu, Mac OS. The terminal starts differently for everyone.
Instructions
Step 1
Click on the Windows Start button located in the lower left corner of the taskbar. Select the "Run" item in the menu that appears. A window for launching the program by name will open. Enter "cmd" or "command" in the search bar, then press the "OK" button or the Enter key. This will open a terminal. If you have the latest version of Windows 7, then open the Start menu and at the very bottom there will be a search bar in which you enter the same name and press Enter or the magnifying glass icon.
Step 2
Start your Mac OS, open the Finder menu, and go to the Applications directory, where select the Utilities section. Find the Terminal app and run. You can also find the command line through the Spotlight menu.
Step 3
Press the key combination "Ctrl + Space", then in the upper right corner you will see the query line that appears. Enter the word "terminal". The program will start searching. Select from the found the one near which there is the inscription "Best match" or "Programs". The launch can be carried out by selecting the file and pressing the Enter key or the Return button.
Step 4
Find the Applications menu in the upper left corner of your Ubuntu desktop. Click on it with the left mouse button. A menu of installed applications will open, in which select the "Standard" item. Find the Terminal application and launch the program. Some versions of Linux allow you to run the command line differently. To do this, go to the "K-menu" menu, where click on the "System" section and select "Konsole" or "Terminal Program".
Step 5
Become familiar with the various commands and how to enter them into the terminal in advance. Through the console, you can perform tasks such as launching applications, formatting disks, checking the network, deleting files, and more.
