If, when you turn on the computer, something knocks and rattles in the power supply unit, this means that it needs cleaning. The dust that accumulates on the blades of the cooler changes their weight, which causes the rotor to loosen and gradually fail. As a result, you have to change the power supply. To prevent this from happening, you need to periodically clean the power supply unit.

Necessary

  • - screwdriver;
  • - machine oil or other lubricant.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the cover from the top of the power supply. To do this, unscrew the 4 screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 2

If a large amount of dust has accumulated on the back of the cover, then it must be cleaned out. If this is not done, then this dust will settle back on the cooler. It is advisable to wipe the metal surface with a dry cloth.

Step 3

Having gained access to the PSU itself from the side wall, unscrew 4 additional screws at the corners of the cooler. This will allow you to remove the board and perform better cleaning. A large amount of dust accumulates under the fan, which must also be cleaned out.

Step 4

Remove the board by unscrewing 4 more screws on the bottom wall (if present). Clean the case from dust.

Step 5

Take a cooler. Most of the dust accumulates on it. Remove any external dust from it, and then peel off the protective sticker on one of its sides. If there is a special rubber plug that prevents access to the fan mechanism, then it must also be removed. Pull out the plastic washer carefully.

Step 6

Clean out any dust you find, which makes it difficult to rotate the cooler. Apply grease to the rotor shaft to make it easier to turn.

Step 7

Install the board and cooler back. The fan is placed on the blower, so the rotor should be inside the case, and the sticker should be closer to the wall.

Step 8

Screw on the top cover carefully. The edges should fit into the grooves of the power supply case, and the wires should not be pinched. Put the power supply unit in the computer and check the cooler for operation.
