If you decide to start creating music using computer programs or mixing existing compositions, you most likely will have to face the need to speed up or slow down any part of an audio file more than once. This can be done in different ways, starting with standard Windows tools and ending with specialized programs.

Necessary

computer, audio file editor, slow motion compositions

Instructions

Step 1

Download and install any program for editing audio files. You can use both sophisticated professional programs (such as Adobe Audition or Sony Sound Forge) and their free counterparts (Audacity or WavePad). You can also use DJ software to slow down songs on your computer. With them, you can add individual sounds or even rewrite part of the composition.

Step 2

Run the program and open the song in it that you want to change. Select the required part of the audio file with the cursor by pressing the left mouse button and dragging to the end of the required part. You can slow down the entire song or a 3-second section of it.

Step 3

Copy the selection using the program's editing function or just press Ctrl + C. Create a new file and paste the copied snippet into it. In the program menu, select the item "Stretch" (Process / Time Compress / Expand, if the program is not Russified) and set a larger value for the time. Listen to the result of your actions and, if necessary, correct the time period.

Step 4

If necessary, paste the edited section back into the composition. To do this, use the "Cut" button to get rid of the old fragment and, by pressing the Ctrl + V keys, paste the slowed-down part in its place. If you make a mistake while pasting, press Ctrl + Z and repeat the action.

Step 5

Save the resulting file. When saving, you can set a different file format, change the sample rate, set up multichannel, and set ID3 tags.
