To set up your Cisco phone for SIP, there are some preliminary steps. To get started, download the latest firmware updates for your phone model from www.cisco.com and create a configuration file following the guidelines below. After you turn on your phone, it will download all the information you need.

Instructions

Step 1

In the first step, initialize the phone, during which the phone will request the following information from the TFTP server:

- the latest firmware update;

- standard configuration file;

- a specially created configuration file for this phone, taking into account the MAC address;

- Dial-plan, which must be configured manually. To do this, enter the following settings, which you can find in the instructions for your phone or at your service provider: default gateway, domain name, IP address, DNS server, TFTP server address.

Step 2

Next, start the initialization process, during which the phone will download all the necessary files and receive the information you entered in the settings.

Step 3

After that, the phone will start checking the firmware version, make sure it matches your phone model. Next, in the configuration file, change the following parameters:

- proxy1_address - address of the proxy server used by the phone;

- line1_name - address or e-mail number that is used for registration. Enter the number without hyphens, and the mail address without the host name.

- proxy1_port - port number for the proxy server used by the phone.

Leave all other parameters unchanged, unless it is absolutely necessary to adjust them.

Step 4

Now, manually configure your phone settings. By default, the configuration of the Cisco phone, or rather its parameters, is locked. To unlock it, enter the password that was set in the configuration file. To do this, click Settings> Unlock Config. After finishing the setting, press “Exit” to block the possibility of changing the parameters again. Remember to save your settings and restart your phone for them to take effect. In these settings, you can specify the TFTP server address or IP address, as well as, for example, set the phone time format and the ability to automatically switch to another time zone or summer / winter time.
