Instructions

Step 1

There are two types of subtitles - internal and external. An external subtitle is a file in which for each subtitle that will be displayed on the screen, the time of its appearance and disappearance is indicated. If you don't need subtitles, you can turn them off in the media player settings. Internal subtitles are permanently embedded in the video and are displayed permanently. It is impossible to disable them.

Step 2

When adding subtitles, the format of your video doesn't matter. There are a large number of subtitle sites on the Internet, if you do not have subtitles for the desired movie, download them from any similar site. After downloading the subtitle file, move it to the movie folder and rename it so that the movie name and subtitle name match. After that, the subtitles will automatically play along with the video. You may encounter a situation where the text and video are out of sync. To solve this problem, download an editor program such as Jubler. Use it to adjust the time when a particular phrase appears on the screen. The program is easy to use and has a fairly intuitive interface. But editing can take a lot of time. the phrase fitting procedure is quite laborious.

Step 3

If you need to embed subtitles in a video, rather than as a separate file, a combination of VirtualDub and VSFilter will help you. Download the programs (they will not be difficult to find) and install them. Open the VSFilter program folder, find the VSFilter.dll file in it and copy it to the WindowsSystem32 folder. Then click "Start" and select "Run". In the small window that opens, enter the regsvr32 VSfilter.dll command. With these steps, you have built VSFilter into VirtualDub. Next, open the VSFilter program folder and find the Release directory in it. Rename the VSFilter.dll file to textsub.vdf. Now you can use the resulting file as a plugin for overlaying subtitles in your video. To do this, launch the VirtualDub program, open the TextSub filter, select the subtitles to embed and click Ok.
