Any battery sooner or later requires replacement due to loss of power and aging of the electrolyte. If you have been using an uninterruptible power supply for 2-3 years, then you should think about replacing the batteries. Symptoms of an outdated battery can be a decrease in the manufacturer's declared battery life of the UPS during a power outage, heating the case, constantly turning on the cooling fans (although this was not the case before), and, of course, the UPS signaling about battery problems.
Let's look at the replacement procedure using the popular APC Back-UPS 700 custom UPS as an example.
Necessary
You don't need any additional tools to replace the battery in most UPSs
Instructions
Step 1
We turn the device over so that we can see the back cover, having previously disconnected all the devices included in it and the uninterruptible power supply itself from the mains.
Step 2
Open the back plastic case cover, moving it towards you. It is fastened with latches, and you can easily slide it by pressing the special grooves made on the right and left.
Step 3
Next, you will see the RBC2 battery pack inserted into the UPS. To get it, you often do not need a screwdriver - in our case, it is enough to turn the UPS, and the battery will slide out of the case under the influence of gravity.
Step 4
The UPS wires are connected to the RBC terminals using quick disconnect clamps. You must disconnect them by simply pulling the connector from the edge of the Back-UPS 700. In this case, the disconnection sequence is irrelevant. First, disconnect the negative terminal (black wire).
Step 5
Then we disconnect the black terminal with the red wire.
Step 6
We take out the battery from the UPS.
Step 7
Having partially placed the new battery in the compartment, we connect the wires in reverse order. First, the red wire with the black terminal.
Step 8
And then - a black wire with a white terminal.
Step 9
We insert the battery kit all the way into place!
Step 10
We close the battery compartment with a plastic cover, simply pushing it along the guides until it clicks.
