By their general design, the bulk of Xerox cartridges can be divided into many different types, but the most common type can be seen on the example of the Xerox Phaser 3117 cartridge. This example is enough for you to be able to disassemble, in principle, any Xerox cartridge.
Necessary
Phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, rubber gloves
Instructions
Step 1
Toner is very light and volatile, therefore, it is best to work with any cartridge under a hood, preferably with a respirator. If you don't want to spend all day washing your fingers and nails, wear rubber gloves (they are more comfortable to work with than any other). It is advisable to wipe each removed plastic part from the toner with a cloth moistened with alcohol or clean it with a vacuum cleaner.
Step 2
Place the toner cartridge down with the drum unit and remove the two screws from the top cover. On some models of this type, the top cover is also pressed against the right side. In this case, you need to unscrew the screws from the side cover (there are three of them), and pull to the side.
Step 3
When you remove the side cover, gently pull the edge of the top cover forward and upward to avoid breaking the plastic clips. The cover should slide off easily along the guides. If you do break the latches (this can happen due to inexperience), do not worry: the screws will press the cover tightly enough to the case.
Now you can remove the left cover: to do this, you need to unscrew three screws from it and gently pull. If you do it too harshly, you can scatter the gears.
Step 4
Next, remove the charge transfer shaft: it is located above the photo drum, it is held with the help of clamps. Pull the clamp towards you and slide the shaft axially, it should slide out easily. Now you can take out the photo drum. Pull out the steel pin, and by pushing the drum from below with your finger, carefully lift it out. Remember: this thing is fragile, afraid of bright light, so it is best to wrap it in newspaper and put it on something soft.
Step 5
To remove the toner shaft, remove the dispensing blade separating the toner hopper. To do this, unscrew the two screws from the top and pry it on the side with a screwdriver. Handle the dispensing blade in this type of cartridge with care, otherwise unnecessary vertical streaks will appear on the printed page.
Now it remains to remove the gear from the side of the left cover, and, sliding the tone shaft along the axis, pull it out of the cartridge.
