If you are a user of social networks, you probably noticed that many friends and acquaintances have cute avatars with rounded corners. Let's take a look at how to crop the corners of any photo in Photoshop.
It is necessary
- - a computer
- - Adobe Photoshop program
- - the photo
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a photo to experiment with. Open it in Photoshop and take a look at the window with layers (in the screenshot at the bottom left). Now you only have one layer (Background) and it is locked.
Step 2
Right-click on the Background layer, select Duplicate Layer and click OK (or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + J). Then create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N), place it between the background and its copy as shown in the screenshot (you can fill it with some color, for example white). Turn off the locked layer (click on the "eye" symbol on the left) or delete.
Step 3
In the tool palette, find the button with a rectangle (Rectangle Tool) and hold it down for a second with the left mouse button. An additional menu will appear where you need to select the second line (Rounded Rectangle Tool). Set the settings in the upper part the same as in the screenshot, and change the Radius field to your liking (the higher the value, the more round the corners will be, and the more the image will be cropped.
Then, in the photo, select the fragment that you want to use (for example, as an avatar). If you made a mistake, press the Esc key and repeat the selection. After the desired fragment is selected, right-click on it and select Make Selection … and click OK.
Step 4
A selection frame will appear around the fragment. Press the Shift + Ctrl + I keyboard shortcut to invert the selection (or Selection → Inverse). Now press the Del or Backspace key to crop the photo to the created frame.
Step 5
Done, you now have a rounded corners photo layer. Now the Layer 2 layer (the one that serves as the background) can be filled with any color, or left transparent.
