Connecting an electret microphone to a computer depends on the type of microphone. Electret microphones are often used instead of condenser microphones because they are cheaper, do not require an external power source, and have many other advantages.

- - Electret microphone (wireless or wired);
- - PC;
- - sound card;
- - appropriate cables and connectors.
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase a wireless discrete microphone. Look at its back surface. You will see one or more output types such as RCA and XLR. Make sure that the correct cable containing the appropriate connectors is included with the microphone. If it is not available, go to the device manufacturer's website and see what type of cable you will need to purchase additionally. Connect the microphone to the appropriate jack on your computer. Check your microphone. You can do this with any audio program of your choice.
Step 2
Connect a wired electret microphone if you were buying it. To do this, use an XLR cable. If you are using decks, you can use them to connect a microphone to the corresponding jack in the same way as with a wireless microphone, as described above. If you are using a FireWire or USB interface, then connect the device through these connectors.
Step 3
Wait while the computer detects new hardware if you are using a FireWire or USB connection. Go to the Start menu, then to the Control Panel. Proceed to the Sounds and Audio Devices section. Go to the "Sound Recording" section. Make sure your device is listed. Do the same in the Voice menu under the Voice Recording tab. Test your microphone with any audio program of your choice.
Step 4
Use the dedicated audio software tools to improve the quality of your microphone recording. You can also select a specific part of the recording for processing. Go to the main menu of the program and select "Effects" or "Edit". Use tools such as Audio Enhancer, Noise Reduction, or some others to change the sound of the recording to your liking.
