In Russia, roaming within the country is not cheap. Of course, if a company representative goes on a business trip to another city, he needs constant cellular communication. However, even it is quite expensive despite flexible commercial rates. But an ordinary tourist who went to another subject of the federation already has to think about whether it is worth calling home once again - long-distance negotiations are significantly hitting their pocketbooks.

However, the Ministry of Communications has proposed a new bill, according to which roaming surcharges for long distance calls will be abolished. In fact, a similar payment scheme operates in most of the developed countries of the world. The idea is to cancel the roaming charge, in which case the cost of the call will be equal to a regular long-distance call. In other words, if you are traveling from St. Petersburg to Orenburg, then you will pay the same price for a call home as the residents of Orenburg pay for a call to St. Petersburg, without any extra charges. In turn, you can generally call Orenburg phones at local rates.

It is not yet known how the officials will settle this issue with the largest mobile operators. According to the latter, the cost of long-distance calls is extremely high, which is why roaming surcharges are also high. That is why, say the representatives of the companies, in Russia, unlike in European countries, it is inappropriate to adopt such a law due to the size of the country. The fact is that cellular operators make good profits from the sale of SIM cards in frequently visited cities - Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan. Visitors buy new SIM cards there so as not to pay extra for roaming. Accordingly, they are forced to change their phone number, which causes a lot of inconvenience.

In fact, while the idea of the bill was proposed by the Minister of Communications Nikolai Nikiforov only on his Twitter account, there have been talks about canceling roaming for several years. So, most likely, the Russians will have to wait for this event for a long time.
