If you do not have a webcam, you can use a phone running Symbian OS as it. It can even be placed at some distance from the computer and shown to the interlocutor, say, the next room.
Instructions
Step 1
Go to the following site
Step 2
Download SmartCam server part for Symbian operating system. If your Nokia phone is S40, download the J2ME backend instead. Install the program on your phone.
Step 3
Download the SmartCam client for the operating system installed on your computer (Linux or Windows). Install it.
Step 4
If your computer does not have Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (or your phone does not have Wi-Fi, and your computer does not have Bluetooth), connect to it and configure the appropriate external device. The setting method depends on the OS used.
Step 5
Launch the server part of the program on the phone, and the client on the computer. Set up the same connection method in them: Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. In the second case, set the ports and IP addresses in them correctly. Pair your phone with your computer and start using it as a webcam. Try using it, say, as a baby monitor.
Step 6
If the program is used in Windows and works via Bluetooth, it may not connect to the computer via BlueSoleil drivers. In this case, replace them with the Bluetooth drivers supplied with Windows. In any case, if the phone has Wi-Fi, it is better to use it.
Step 7
Remember that the transfer of the image from the phone to the computer will stop as soon as it is removed at a distance that is too far for Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to work properly.
Step 8
If the program will be used for video surveillance in a public place, be sure to place a clearly visible sign in it informing visitors that they are being filmed. To prevent the phone from running out, connect it to the mains through the charger. Position it in such a way as to completely prevent theft.
