Problems with sound reproduction through speakers can be hardware and software. Hardware malfunctions include sound card and speaker malfunctions, software malfunctions - incorrectly installed driver, virus, system errors, etc.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure the speakers are plugged in - the LED on their front should be on. Touch the plug with your finger to check it is working - a hum will be heard from the working speakers.
Step 2
Check if the speakers are properly connected to the computer. On the rear panel of the system unit, the audio connector is marked with a green color or a headphone image, on the front - with a headphone image. If the speakers are connected correctly and there is no sound, replace them with headphones. If sound is output through the headphones, the problem is still in the speakers.
Step 3
Pay attention to the volume icon in the tray (lower right corner of the screen). If it is crossed out, right-click on it and select the "Enable" command in the context menu.
Step 4
If the icon looks normal, double-click it to bring up the volume settings window. Notice if there is a check mark next to the Off. all”in the“General”section. Adjust the volume sliders to a normal level.
Step 5
You can check the volume settings differently if the icon is not displayed in the tray. In the control panel, double-click the Sounds and Audio Devices icon. In the “Volume” tab, make sure that the box next to “Mute sound” is not checked. Go to the "Audio" tab and click "Volume". If necessary, uncheck the box next to "Off." and adjust the volume using the sliders.
Step 6
The sound can be muted by the system. Press the Win + R keys and enter the services.msc command in the program launcher window. Find Windows Audio in the list of services. Its status should be "Working". To start a service, right-click on its name and select Start.
Step 7
If no volume settings are available, there might be a problem with the driver. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties". In the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. Devices for which the drivers are not installed correctly are marked with a yellow question mark and exclamation point. If necessary, download the driver for the sound card from the manufacturer's website and install it.
Step 8
The faulty card does not show up in the device manager. If you have an expansion card installed, disconnect the system unit from the network, remove the side panel and remove the card from the slot. Wipe the contact pads with a regular eraser and gently insert the card back - this operation often helps if the problem was oxidation of the contacts.
