If the built-in webcam is not equipped with a special LED that serves as an indicator of its operation, then at first glance it is difficult to tell whether it is functioning or not. But this can be checked using special tools of the operating system and programs for working with a webcam.

Step 1
Open the "Start" menu and click on the line "Control Panel" (or use the icon on the desktop. After that, in the "Control Panel" double-click on the "System" icon, as a result of which the Windows operating system settings window will open. In this dialog in the window, go to the "Hardware" tab and click on the "Device Manager" button. A window will open that is a list of all physical and virtual devices installed on the computer, displaying information about their functioning. In the drop-down list, select the line "Imaging devices", and click on the “+” symbol After opening the list, find the webcam in it and make sure that it is enabled (its line is not marked with a red cross or a question mark).
Step 2
Run an application designed specifically for working with a webcam in order to test it in real conditions. Usually, these kinds of applications are installed on a laptop equipped with a built-in camera, or they are installed along with drivers on a USB webcam. For example, on an Acer laptop, a similar program is launched by the sequence of commands "Start" - "All Programs" - "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam". If the webcam is enabled and working properly, then immediately after starting the program window will display the image received from it. Using the program, you can record videos and take photos on your webcam, while changing its resolution, depending on the need.
Step 3
Open any application that uses a webcam. This could be, for example, a video calling program such as Skype. When you turn on the video call mode, the webcam should be activated and display an image in the program window. In this way, you can also check its performance.
