Modern mobile phones can work as an access point using the Internet via EDGE, 3G or 4G. This function can be used to transfer data wirelessly from a computer. At the same time, to use such Wi-Fi, you do not need to install additional programs.
Computer settings
If you will be using a computer to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot created using a mobile phone, make sure it has a Wi-Fi network card or an appropriate USB dongle for connecting to wireless networks. In the absence of the necessary equipment, the computer will not be able to connect to the access point, and therefore you will need to purchase one of the devices in order to use Wi-Fi. After purchasing the module, install it into the USB port of your computer and install the driver by inserting the software disc that comes with the device.
If you purchased a Wi-Fi network card, insert it into the appropriate PCI slot on the computer motherboard, and then install the drivers from the included disk. If all the settings were made correctly, you will see the corresponding icon, similar to the indicator of the reception level of the mobile communication signal on the phone. To use a laptop as a means of accessing the Internet, you do not need to make additional settings, since most devices initially have the necessary Wi-Fi module.
Phone setup
To create a Wi-Fi hotspot from your Android phone, go to Settings - Tethering. For some devices on this operating system, the menu item may be called "Wi-Fi access point". Go to the "Access Point Settings" section to change the password and set the name of the future network. Then put a tick in front of the "Wi-Fi access point" item and wait for the connection to be created. A similar menu is available on iPhone and iPad devices in the "Settings" - "Modem mode" section. To create a connection in devices on Windows Phone, go to "Settings" - "Internet Sharing" and switch the slider to the "Enabled" position.
Connection
On your computer screen, click on the signal strength indicator located in the lower-right corner of the Start panel. Select the name of your phone or the name that you assigned to your access point from the options offered. Enter the specified password and click "OK". It will be connected in a few seconds and you can use your network connection. If you are unable to navigate to the sites you want, check that your mobile Internet connection (EDGE, 3G, or 4G) is working properly on your phone. If necessary, try disabling and then re-enabling the hotspot on your phone to reconnect from your computer.
