Step 1
Do not think that you can go to the store and buy the first router (router) you like. When it comes to creating a wired local area network (usually only desktop computers), you need to choose a device that has a certain number of Ethernet (LAN) ports. If the future network will include laptops, then it is recommended to use a Wi-Fi router.
Step 2
Let's look at an example of creating a complex local area network that will consist of stationary PCs and laptops. Get a WI-Fi router. The specifications of this equipment must meet the requirements of wireless notebook adapters. Note also that there are two main types of connectors used to connect to the Internet: DSL and LAN.
Step 3
Connect all computers of the future LAN to the router. To do this, use network cables that connect to the LAN (Ethernet) ports of the equipment. Connect the Internet cable to the WAN (Internet) port of the router.
Step 4
Turn on one of the computers. Launch a browser (it is better to use programs compatible with IE) and enter the router's IP into its address bar. The device settings menu appears on the screen.
Step 5
Open Internet Setup Settings. Set the required parameters, similar to those you enter when setting up a direct computer connection to the Internet. Save your changes.
Step 6
Open the Wireless Setup Settings menu. Create an SSID (name) and Password (password) for your Wi-Fi hotspot. Select the types of security and radio signal from the offered options. Note: It is better to choose combined types, for example: WPA / WPA2-PSK and 802.11b / g / n. This will allow you to connect to an access point for almost any laptop.

Save changes, reboot the Wi-Fi router and connect laptops to the created network.
