A grinder with a millstone is actually a mill. Coffee has been ground with such grinders since ancient times. The millstones were then made of stone, but they had to be turned manually. Today, metal grinders are usually built into coffee grinders, and the device itself is powered by electricity. But the essence hasn't changed, and a grinder like this is still the perfect way to get the coffee you want to grind.

Instructions

Step 1

Burr coffee grinder works as follows. She has a millstone between which coffee beans are placed. One of the millstones moves, so that the grains are ground into powder. The millstones themselves do not necessarily have a cylindrical shape, they can, for example, be conical. Before starting grinding, set the distance between the millstones, it is this that determines the degree of grinding. The use of a burr coffee grinder is simply necessary for many types of automatic coffee makers and coffee machines, for which grinding is very important, because otherwise an expensive device may fail. An electric burr grinder is usually slightly more expensive than a knife grinder as it provides a better and more even grind.

Step 2

There are two types of coffee grinder with burrs: electric and manual. People have been using manual devices for a very long time, their feature is at a very low price and in the special atmosphere that such a coffee grinder creates in the kitchen. However, it is only good when you have enough time to grind your own beans in the morning for coffee. The process usually takes 5 to 20 minutes, and not everyone is willing to set aside that time in the morning.

Step 3

Among the hand-held grinders, one can distinguish the so-called "Turkish" coffee grinder, which is designed specifically for making coffee for a Turk: the grinding is just perfect. In any case, despite some inconveniences associated with using a manual burr coffee grinder, this does not affect the quality of the grinding. If you want to save money or don't drink coffee often, this is ideal. In other cases, it is better to use an electrical device.

Step 4

The volume of the grinder is usually not very important. Its peculiarity is that you can fill in any number of grains (within the permissible volume) and get a high-quality grind, while a knife grinder does a good job only with the recommended volume, and if there are less grains, then the grinding will not be very good. Therefore, volume, as a parameter when choosing a burr coffee grinder, will be important only if you choose a device to prepare coffee in larger quantities, for example, for the office. On sale most often there are devices designed for 200-300 grams, but this does not mean that you need to grind so much coffee at once.

Step 5

The next parameter is the power of the device. Burr coffee grinders always have a fairly high power, but this parameter is associated, as a rule, not with the speed of grinding, but with the area of the millstones: increasing the efficiency of the device is achieved in this way. The more power, the more coffee the device can grind at one time.

Step 6

Pay attention to the strength of the casing and parts of the grinder. Often, the main parameter affecting its performance is the millstones themselves, so open the data sheet of the device and find out what metal they are made of. If they are titanium-plated, this greatly increases their durability.

Step 7

In general, it is not advisable to buy an unknown brand electric burr grinder. All burr coffee grinders made by well-known manufacturers are durable and of good quality, since the mechanism of the device itself is quite simple, all sorts of unusual technologies are not used here.

Step 8

Probably the most important parameter when choosing a burr grinder is the number of grinds it has. The more, the better. It is advisable to purchase a device where there are at least 6 grinding steps, but few people need more than 10.

Step 9

You can take a closer look at various additional parameters that affect the usability of the coffee grinder. For example, this is a dispenser: a device that will allow you to get the exact amount of coffee in grams. Some coffee grinders have a built-in tamper to immediately make "pills" for espresso machines (although the coffee machines themselves do a good job with this too). All additional options are needed only for your comfort, they do not affect the quality of coffee grind.
