The capacity of a battery is the amount of energy (charge Q, electricity) in it. The capacity of a battery or battery is measured in milliamperes per hour or amperes per hour. So, for example, a battery with a capacity of 1000 milliamps / hour can provide a current of 1000 milliamps for an hour or a current of 100 milliamps for 10 hours, etc. Knowing the voltage U, you can easily calculate the energy stored in the battery, it is enough to know the formula: E = Q * U.

Instructions

Step 1

Purchase, rent, or borrow a dedicated battery meter. Take the battery and fully charge it, then discharge it using the current (I). Measure the time (T) over which the discharge will take place.

Step 2

Calculate the product of current, which will be the capacity of the battery. To do this, you need to take the current strength and time and multiply them (Q = I * T). We would like to note that in the same way you can measure the capacity of absolutely any battery, as well as an ordinary battery. But at the same time it should be remembered that it will be impossible to charge a simple battery again, unlike a battery.

Step 3

Other methods can be used to find out the capacity of the battery. So to measure the capacity of the specified device, you can use a special circuit that allows you to discharge the battery through a resistor (R). Moreover, such a discharge is carried out up to a voltage of about 1W. Then measure the discharge current using the formula: I = U / R.

Step 4

In order to measure the discharge time, you can use a regular watch capable of operating at 1.5 W. When discharging the battery, remember that the device should not be completely discharged, but for this you need to use a special solid relay, for example, PVN012. Such a relay allows you to disconnect the battery in time at the moment when the voltage drops to a minimum level. Reducing to 1W is allowed, as already noted.

Step 5

Connect the discharged battery to the circuit. Turn on the circuit and set the stopwatch by turning on the watch. When the discharge reaches 1 W, the relay will close, and the clock will stop.

Step 6

In order to find out how much charge the battery loses, after about a week or two of use, with self-discharge, it is necessary to measure the capacity of the device after fully charging and make such measurements after another week or two.
