Instructions
Step 1
Make sure the switch model you are using is manageable, otherwise you will not be able to configure it. You can find out the necessary information regarding the device model on the official website of the manufacturer by selecting a review of your switch and viewing its characteristics. There are also lists of vendor-specific managed and unmanaged switches.
Step 2
Make sure the switch you are configuring is plugged into a power supply, which in turn is plugged into a power outlet. Connect the switch to your computer's NIC using the supplied cable. Go to configuring the network card.
Step 3
Open the properties of the local network connection you are using, find the setting for the "Internet (TCP / IP)" parameter. Also launch the object properties menu. Write down the settings for the address and subnet mask parameters. Then, on the General tab, enter the IP value 192.168.0.2. Use 255.255.255 for the subnet mask. Confirm the changes.
Step 4
Once you have verified that your network card is configured correctly, proceed to configuring the switch. Run the "Run" utility from the "Start" menu and enter the ping command in its line, then specify the address of your computer on the network. To send a data packet, write ping 192.168.0.2 - t. Automating the sending of a data packet will significantly reduce your time to repeat this procedure.
