The easiest way to increase your free disk space is to purchase an external hard drive. Connecting such a disc takes a little time and at the same time gives a lot of free time that you could spend on burning the necessary information to DVD discs. External hard drives have increased functionality and the ability to connect not only via the USB port, but also FireWire (aka IEEE 1394).

Step 1
Any external data recording and storage device comes with:
- winchester;
- connection cable;
- network adapter;
- installation disc (not for all models).
In order to appreciate all the advantages of external drives, you need to install a new device. Follow these steps:
- connect the network adapter to an external storage device, plug the adapter into the network;
- install the necessary drivers (located on the CD);
- the new hard drive must be formatted and partitioned;
- When connecting the disk to the computer, use the connecting cables. In accordance with the type of cable, select the required port for it on the back of the computer (USB or FireWire).
Step 2
After completing all these steps, your operating system will report that a new device has been found. Wait for the disk icon to appear in the My Computer folder. Access to this folder is located directly on the desktop or through the menu "Start" - "My Computer". To view the contents of your disc, double-click on its image. Your external hard drive is ready to go.
Step 3
In order to disconnect the disk from the computer, you must click on the additional devices icon next to the system clock. When disconnecting the disk in a non-standard way: disconnecting the network adapter or disconnecting the communication cable without first disconnecting the device (via the operating system interface), problems may arise when the disk is read by a computer or complete loss of data.
