It should be noted that it is impossible to connect a home phone to a computer without additional equipment. Today, the most optimal solution for connecting a landline phone to a computer is to use a special SIP adapter. All subsequent steps for connecting a home phone to a PC will be described using a SIP adapter. It should be noted that SIP adapters are multifunctional devices that can expand the capabilities of the home telephone network and the Internet.
Step 2
Turn on your computer. Connect SIP to the network card on your computer. If you do not have a separately purchased network card, connect to an integrated one, such a card is available on almost any computer (except for very old models). The built-in network card is called Ethernet.
Step 3
Find the Ethernet interface on the back of the computer and plug in the SIP adapter there. Connect the required phone to the SIP adapter. Install drivers and utilities from the disks that you received when purchasing a SIP adapter.
Step 4
Now, using the appropriate utility, you need to configure the connected phone. Although the phone will already appear as a device connected to the computer, for more functionality, for example, making calls over the Internet, you will need to enter some settings.
Step 5
Run the installed SIP adapter configuration utility. Depending on the place of residence, you will need to enter the telephone area code. Then the program itself will carry out all the necessary settings. Then the phone will be fully connected to the computer.
Step 6
You do not need a landline telephone network to connect your home phone to your computer. If you live in a house or apartment where there is no telephone yet, but it is possible to connect the Internet, for example, cable, it is not necessary to connect the telephone and the Internet separately. Connect the Internet, and then connect your home telephone to your computer as described above, and you can make regular phone calls using the Internet.
