The subwoofer is used to create deep sound at very low frequencies. It is found in most home theaters or high-power audio systems. If you decide to install such a device at home, then you need to start with the purchase itself, since more powerful may not always be of better quality.
Instructions
Step 1
Consider the size of the room and the speaker system to which the subwoofer will be connected. This must be done before purchasing the device. If you have small acoustics, then there will be little sense from a large subwoofer. Also, do not purchase a device with only line-level inputs if the receiver or amplifier does not have additional outputs for volume control. Determine where the subwoofer will sit in the room. If you place it against a wall, the bass will be more pronounced, and if you install it in a corner, you will get a boomy sound.
Step 2
Connect the subwoofer to the amplifier with an additional speaker cable through the speaker inputs. If line outputs are used, interconnect cables will be needed. For a mono connection, both amplifier channels must be used.
Step 3
Adjust the cutoff frequency of the subwoofer to match your main speakers. To do this, read the instructions for the device, which describes in detail all the regulators and their purpose. However, you shouldn't configure everything just by rules. Check the sound also by ear, depending on your preferred music.
Step 4
To ensure seamless integration of the drivers, it is necessary to slightly overlap the frequency bands of the subwoofer and acoustics. The rear panel of the device contains a high-level volume control for the speaker inputs, as well as a low-level one for line outputs. To change the upper limit of the reproduced band, the cutoff frequency control is used. Some models are equipped with two of these knobs for fine and coarse adjustments.
Step 5
Install the software for the subwoofer if necessary. It depends on the configuration of the device and what speaker they are working with. As a rule, this information is contained in the instructions.
