However, improper monitor settings can result in flickering, which can be detrimental to vision. To avoid this, it is necessary to carry out a series of operations to eliminate flicker.

Step 1
Determine the cause of the monitor flickering. It can be caused by specifying an incorrect refresh rate, improper installation of video card drivers, or hardware failure.
Step 2
Take your monitor to a service or repair company if you suspect that the flickering was caused by a specific problem. Experts will identify and eliminate the cause of the problem. In some cases, it may be advisable to purchase a new monitor.
Step 3
Change the refresh rate to reduce flickering. To do this, right-click on the desktop and select "Properties". In the window that opens, go to the "Options" tab, where click on the "Advanced" button. Another window will appear in which the "Monitor" tab is selected.
Step 4
Find the line "Screen refresh rate", where in the drop-down menu, specify a value of at least 60 Hz. Also check what screen resolution is set in the settings and, if necessary, set the correct one. For example, for monitors with a 4: 3 format, this value will be 1024x768. The above method for changing the refresh rate applies to those with Windows XP or earlier.
Step 5
Click on the desktop of the Windows 7 operating system with the right mouse button and go to the "Screen Resolution" section, where select "Advanced Settings". Then we follow the same instructions as described in the paragraph above for setting the refresh rate and screen resolution.
Step 6
Right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties". This method of eliminating flickering will help when it is caused by improper driver installation. Go to the Hardware tab and select the Device Manager menu.

Check the item "Display adapters" and "Monitors". If an exclamation mark is lit in front of them, then your guesses have been confirmed. You need to click on the "Update" button or download new drivers from the official websites of the manufacturers of your video card or monitor.
