After copying photos from a digital camera or its memory card to a computer, a situation may arise in which the camera automatically protects the memory media from write protection and refuses to take pictures or record videos. What to do in this case if the write protection cannot be removed in the camera settings?

Instructions

Step 1

The first way to return a memory card to "working order" is to remove it from the camera slot. Disconnect the camera and remove the memory card. Twirl it in your hands and you may find a small switch latch on it. It is made like a lever on 3.5-inch discs and has two positions: writing to the card is allowed, and writing to the card is prohibited. Move the lever to the opposite position and insert it into the digital camera, then try to take a picture.

Step 2

It is possible that the camera still refuses to take a picture, citing write protection, or it uses a card such as xD, which does not have a lever. Cards without a switch are installed in some models of digital cameras from Olympus and other manufacturers. In this case, in the menu, cancel protection for a specific image you have selected - it is shown by an icon in the form of a key.

Step 3

If the settings of the device are not accompanied by such an option, you need to use the third method - remove the "Read-only" attribute from those pictures on which it was set. This is done through a computer. Connect the memory card to the PC, open it and uncheck the "Read only" checkbox in the file properties.

Step 4

If the previous methods did not help, refer to the camera's user manual. At the end of the manual there is usually a section containing error messages for flashing your camera. In addition to the messages appearing on the display of the camera, the brochure contains the reasons for their appearance and solutions. Most likely, there is also an error about the impossibility of recording or protecting the memory from writing, and depending on the manufacturer of the camera, it may have a specific solution.

Step 5

And finally, in the last fifth method, we can talk about a software error in the camera. The solution to the problem with writing to a memory card in this case is to format it through Windows tools or directly from the camera menu.
