High-precision satellite positioning is a technology widespread in the West that has recently come to Russia. The essence of the technology is to refine the signal received from the navigation satellites of the GLONASS and GPS systems (there are other satellite systems - Beidou, QZSS and Galileo, but it is too early to talk about their widespread use) due to their processing by ground-based hardware and software systems - networks of reference stations …

Why is this needed? Everyone has a mobile phone or car navigator. You may have come across a situation - you are driving a car, relying on the readings of the navigator. At some point, he says "Turn right." But you see that in fact you have already passed the turn. This is due to the fact that in the best case, a household navigator gives a positioning accuracy of no better than 5 meters, and usually in a spot from 10 to 100 meters (depending on many conditions). This low accuracy is explained by the fact that there are almost 20 thousand kilometers between the satellites and the Earth's surface. The radio signal to your navigator changes as a result of phase distortion and atmospheric irregularities. In order to increase the accuracy of the satellite signal, ground-based hardware and software systems are being created that refine the satellite signal up to 1 cm in plan and 2 in height by introducing so-called satellite corrections.

Such precision is not needed by the average person. Even taking into account the inaccuracies and inconveniences with navigator errors, the existing accuracy is quite sufficient. High-precision satellite navigation based on networks of reference stations is needed for industrial use - automation of the operation of machines and mechanisms, deformation monitoring of critical and hazardous objects, increasing the accuracy of geodetic work.

The use of high-precision navigation corrections allows you to save a lot of money by saving materials, optimizing work while improving the quality of work and their efficiency. Only one organization is involved in the creation of high-precision satellite positioning networks in Russia: a joint venture between the American company Trimble and the Russian Corporation of Rocket and Space Instrumentation and Information Systems - Rusnavgeoset
